Foundation of TUSGU - June 24, 2002

Tamil University Students and Graduates Union was founded on June 24, 2002 by a team of 5 Canadian university graduates.

Foundation of TUSGU Tutorial Services - August 10, 2002

TUSGU’s original mission was to introduce a tutorial services to serve the Tamil community. TUSGU Tutorial Services started it’s first tutorial classes on Aug 10, 2002 at 1085 Bellamy Road North, Unit 216, in Scarborough.

TUSGU now serves all communities from Canada.

Moved to a Bigger Location - January 4, 2003

With the overwhelming support from the community for our tutorial services, the 2 room unit became insufficient. The board of directors decided to move to a bigger unit with 5 rooms on the same building. TUSGU moved to unit 201 and 202 on Jan 4, 2003.

Changes to Board of Directors - August 31, 2003

With family commitments and career changes, 4 of the board of directors had to resign or reduce their involvement. TUSGU’s mission was carried by Vijay Sivashankar joined by his wife Gowri Sivashankar achieving today’s success.

Introduction of UCMAS - September 25, 2004

Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS) was introduced at TUSGU in September 2004. TUSGU was the second UCMAS franchise in Canada to start it’s classes.

Moved to Even Bigger Location - Feb 5, 2005

With the expansion of curriculum class offerings and growth of UCMAS, the 5 room unit became insufficient as well. TUSGU moved to unit 7 on the same building. The newer unit had 6 rooms and was on the ground floor.

Moved to its Current Biggest Location - Feb 11, 2006

TUSGU Tutorial Services was growing and 3rd location too became small. TUSGU was looking into expand to a bigger location and was fortunate to get an offer from Pastor David Loganathan from Miracle Family Temple Church to move to its current location at 1100 Bellamy Road North, 2nd Floor.
TUSGU’s current location has 11 very big classrooms, parent waiting area, reception area, kitchen and storage facilities. Since there were 2 other branches opened at later time, this became the head office and known as Bellamy location.

TUSGU Educational Services Inc. was Incorporated - Jul 1, 2006

TUSGU Tutorial Services was incorporated as TUSGU Educational Services Inc. on
Jul 1, 2006. 4 of the founders weren’t able to continue with the mission due to personal reasons and Vijay (Shankar) Sivashankar became the sole director and president of TUSGU Educational Services to continue to carry the torch. Shankar was joined by his wife and vice president Gowri Sivashankar to expand the mission.

Opening of 2nd Location - Sep 21, 2007

With the popularity in Scarborough, the students and parents requested for a location to serve near them in Scarborough north.
TUSGU Educational Services started to offer its services from the second location at 3838 Midland Avenue Unit 201 and 202 from Sep 21, 2007.

Relocation of Midland Branch to Finch - July 7, 2012

TUSGU Educational Services decided to move its branch from Midland & Stelees to Finch & Kennedy to serve near the highly student populated area. TUSGU’s moved to 3850 Finch Avenue East, Unit 307.

Relocation of the Finch Branch to a Bigger Unit - May 3, 2014

With popular demand and increase in number of students, the Finch location moved to a bigger and brighter unit on May 3, 2014, TUSGU Finch location is currently operating from Unit 308 at 3850 Finch Avenue East.

Opening of 3rd Location at Morningside - May 21, 2016

With even more demand and popularity, TUSGU opened its 3rd location at Morningside and Sheppard. The unit is currently located at 1265 Morningside Avenue, unit 201.

Introduction of E2 Young Engineers - October 12, 2017

E2 Young Engineers program was introduced at TUSGU on October 12, 2017. This is a Robotics program that we believe will prepare the students for the future STEM needs. TUSGU is the second franchise in Canada to start this program. TUSGU has the rights to operate in whole of Scarborough.

Introduction of iMaths - October 17, 2018

iMaths program, a brand of UCMAS, is launched to offer creative Math teaching for early learners. Currently TUSGU’s all 3 locations offer this program.

iLEAP Club - January 20, 2019

iLEAP Club Public Speaking, Leadership and Softskills development program was launched at TUSGU on January 20, 2019. This aligns with TUSGU’s mission to empower students with future skills.

Online Classes - Mar 23, 2020

On March 23rd, 2020, TUSGU started offering Online classes for the first time.

Relocation of Finch Unit

On June 3, 2022 TUSGU moved its operations back to Unit 307 at 3850 Finch Avenue East. The change was needed to adjust to post pandemic classroom requirements.
