If you are a
registered or prospective student, TUSGU
will provide you with
professional academic counseling services
for free of charge. Our counselors are
able to
provide you with a comprehensive service to
help you choose the right
course before commencing your studies,
provide additional support during your
studies, and also help plan your next career
move.
We are
here to support all your needs and help you
achieve your educational,
vocational and personal goals. Counseling is
predominantly done on an
individual basis, but also includes a
significant amount of group work with
students in such areas as study skills and
career development.
Counselors provide informative, supportive
and confidential counseling in the
following areas:
• Educational and career
planning
• Student allowances, benefits
and access to financial assistance
• Study skills and learning
assistance
• Personal counseling. (We can
arrange personal counseling with external
professional counselors)
• Grievance and conflict
resolution
• Stress management
• Support for students with a
disability.
Whatever age or level of
education, your students may be experiencing
doubt
and confusion as to education plans/or
choice of career. Discussions with a
counsellor and the use of tests can assist
students in the sound exploration of
educational and career possibilities.

Academic-Related Difficulties
Many things can interfere with academic
success, including study problems,
adjustment to college life, tension, and
anxiety. Counsellors are available to
help
your students achieve a better understanding
of the source of such
difficulties
and explore a variety of solutions.
*
Personal Problems
Personal problems often seem difficult to
handle alone and can interfere with
school
work. Help with these problems is available
by dropping in and talking
to one of our professional counsellors.
*
Study Skills Seminars
Your students might feel they are in the
right program but are not getting the
results they should. Seminars are offered
every semester covering effective use
of
time, note taking, concentration, and other
essential study skills.
*
Peer Tutoring
The Student Tutoring Service is designed to
help first year students who are
experiencing difficulties in certain
courses. Students are matched with trained
senior
students for one-to-one tutoring. Tutoring
for more advanced courses
may
be available in certain subject areas.
